Dion Lewis Impressing Bill Belichick In Pass Protection Despite Small Stature

by Zack Cox on Tue, Jan 3, 2017 at 2:46PM 1,223 Share this: When Dion Lewis is on the field, his job typically is either to carry the ball or catch passes. But New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick also has been impressed with the job the diminutive running back has done in pass protection. “It’s definitely been a catch-up area for him,” Belichick said Tuesday in a conference call with reporters. “But he’s worked hard to do that, and I think a lot of pass protection — I mean, those backs are almost always giving up some size unless it’s a secondary blitzer. They’re usually giving up some size to the linebackers and occasionally when they have to block a defensive end or

Don’t Expect To See Tony Romo Play For Cowboys Vs. Eagles In Week 17

Share this: Don’t expect to see Tony Romo take the field Sunday in the Dallas Cowboys’ regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles … unless disaster strikes. Although Dallas already has secured home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear after his team defeated the Detroit Lions on Monday night that he hopes Romo remains on the sideline while rookie quarterback Dak Prescott remains under center against the Eagles in Week 17. “Because I don’t like the circumstance it would come under, which would be injury,” Jones explained, according to ESPN.com. There’s been some debate as to whether the Cowboys should give Romo reps with a first-round bye locked up. Prescott has been excellent this season, but with each snap

Anthony Davis Just Had One Of The Best Games In NBA History

Share this: In every preseason poll, there’s been one constant layer of disrespect that nobody’s talking about: Anthony Davis has been completely forgotten. The New Orleans Pelicans’ superstar was left off every MVP prediction and overlooked for any possible award he could receive. Karl-Anthony Towns apparently is the new “it” star in the NBA, according to everyone, and the often-injured Davis is simply a thing of the past. Except he isn’t. The Pels’ 23-year-old star reminded us all of that Wednesday in his season debut, posting an incredible stat line of 50 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, seven steals and four blocks in 41 minutes in New Orleans’ 107-102 loss to the Denver Nuggets. A notable stat: He nearly posted a famous 5×5 line (five or more

Patriots Sign Tyler Gaffney, Glenn Gronkowski To Fill Practice Squad

Share this: FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots added two notable names to fill their practice squad Monday. The Patriots signed running back Tyler Gaffney and fullback Glenn Gronkowski to their practice squad. Gaffney was a fan favorite during the preseason, when he carried the ball 35 times for 152 yards with a touchdown. He also had five catches for 18 yards. Gaffney originally was claimed by the Patriots off waivers in 2014 and spent two seasons on injured reserve. The Patriots waived/injured Gaffney after the preseason, placed him on injured reserve and then released him with an injury settlement, which prevented them from signing him until now, according to NFL rules. Gronkowski is the youngest brother of Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski. Glenn was

Jonathan Cooper Reportedly Cut By Patriots Before Making New England Debut

The Patriots on Saturday released Cooper, a source told ESPN’s Field Yates. The 26-year-old guard had yet to appear in a game for New England as he continued to recover from a foot injury suffered during the first week of training camp. In a corresponding move, the Patriots signed defensive lineman Woodrow Hamilton off their practice squad, a source told NESN.com’s Doug Kyed. Hamilton will shore up the team’s defensive front, which lacked depth entering Sunday’s matchup with the Cleveland Browns. Cooper’s reported release came three days after he was removed from the Patriots’ injury report for the first time this
