The Red Sox claimed catcher Bryan Holaday off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Friday, the team announced in a press release. Holaday was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Aug. 1. He hit .238 with two home runs, 13 RBIs and a .695 OPS in 94 plate appearances over 30 games with Texas. Holaday spent his first four seasons with the Detroit Tigers, appearing in a career-high 62 games in 2014. The 28-year-old is a .248 hitter with a .640 OPS in 376 career plate appearances.
