Bruins Ready For First Training Camp With Bruce Cassidy As Head Coach

The Boston Bruins made a coaching change last season, replacing longtime bench boss Claude Julien with Bruce Cassidy. The B’s then made a late-season push and secured a playoff spot with Cassidy at the helm, and that experience should help both him and the team Thursday when they begin training camp. Check out Andy Brickley’s thoughts on Cassidy’s first camp as B’s coach in the “NESN Sports Today” video above, presented by People’s United Bank. ... NESN.com

Red Sox Notes: Hector Velazquez Continues To Show Potential For Boston

Share this: It didn’t appear that Hector Velazquez was ready for the big leagues after his first career start against the Oakland Athletics on May 18, but the right-hander is doing his best to change that opinion. Velazquez was called up in case of emergency Wednesday and was thrust into action against the Philadelphia Phillies when Brian Johnson was forced to leave the game with an injury. The Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver watched Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel coast to a P1 finish at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, as Hamilton finished nearly 10 seconds behind, good for P2.. And even though it was a strong day for Mercedes, with Valtteri Bottas calming his first podium as a member of the team, Hamilton sounded anything but satisfied after the race. Given Ferrari’s performance in preseason testing, its victory Sunday shouldn’t surprise anyone — including Hamilton. Still, even though a rac... NESN.com

How Patriots Are Blocking Out Hype Ahead Of Playoff Vs. Underdog Texans

by Zack Cox on Wed, Jan 11, 2017 at 5:36PM 2,035 Share this: FOXBORO, Mass. — Three of this weekend’s divisional-round playoff games should be hotly contested affairs. The New England Patriots are playing in the fourth. The Patriots enter Saturday night’s matchup with the Houston Texans as massive 16-point favorites. If that line holds, it would be the largest for an NFL playoff game since 1998 and the fourth-largest postseason spread in league history. And it makes sense. The Patriots finished the regular season an NFL-best 14-2, while the Texans were able to sneak into the playoffs at 9-7 by winning the league’s weakest division. New England also has beaten Houston once already this season, rolling to a 27-0 victory in Week 3 with
