The Boston Red Sox’s strong suit going into the playoffs was their offense, but that’s not how it worked out Thursday. The Red Sox dropped Game 1 of their American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians 5-4, partly because of a lackluster performance from starter Rick Porcello, who gave up three solo home runs in the third inning. However, the offense really didn’t do Porcello any favors. The Red Sox were swinging at everything and especially had trouble with breaking balls. The Indians’ pitching staff generated a whopping 28 swing-and-misses, and 18 of them were on breaking pitches. Eleven of the Red Sox’s 14 strikeouts were swi... NESN.com

Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello Solidifies Role As Boston’s Top Starter
Share this: BOSTON — The Red Sox haven’t mapped out their rotation for the American League Division Series quite yet, but Rick Porcello almost certainly will be the No. 1 guy. The right-hander didn’t turn in his best outing against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, but it still was good enough to give the Red Sox a 5-3 win. And that’s been the most important part of Porcello’s presence this season: When he’s on the mound, he gives the Red Sox the opportunity to win. “I feel good about the body of work this year,” Porcello said. “More importantly, consistency of giving us a chance to win, providing something that you can count on every fifth day, and that’s what I’ve been
Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello First Boston Pitcher To Win 22 Games Since Pedro Ma…
Share this: In case you haven’t heard, this Rick Porcello guy has been having a pretty good season. The Red Sox starter helped lead Boston to its 10th straight win Saturday with a 6-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. And because Porcello earned the decision, he became the first Red Sox pitcher to win 22 games since Pedro Martinez won 23 in 1999. Now, no one is about to compare Porcello to Martinez. The latter had a ridiculous 1999 season, during which he went 23-4 with a 2.07 ERA and a whopping 313 strikeouts to win the American League Cy Young Award. But Porcello is in the running for this year’s award and isn’t doing too shabby himself at 22-4
Red Sox Look To Make It 10 Wins In A Row Saturday With Rick Porcello On Mound
Share this: Rick Porcello can bolster his Cy Young Award candidacy even more Saturday. The Boston Red Sox right-hander will go for his 22nd win of the season Saturday when he faces the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Furthermore, a win would make it 10 in a row for Boston after it won again Friday. Hear a preview of Porcello’s start in the video from NESN’s “Red Sox Final” above. Rick Porcello Sets Manny Machado’s Record Straight After Hit By Pitch
Share this: Rick Porcello didn’t make many mistakes Monday night, but Manny Machado clearly didn’t like one of them. Porcello pitched a brilliant outing for the Boston Red Sox, throwing just 89 pitches over nine innings to lead his team to a 5-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. The right-hander was highly efficient, walking no one while striking out seven. He temporarily lost control in the fourth inning, though, hitting Machado in the shoulder with an 0-1 fastball. Porcello had no reason to throw at Machado, but the Orioles third baseman surprisingly took offense, glaring at the Red Sox pitcher before jawing at him as he made his way down to first base. Porcello understandably was perplexed by Machado’s reaction. After
Red Sox Wrap: Rick Porcello Earns 20th Win In 13-3 Rout Of Blue Jays
Share this: The Boston Red Sox have a very important stretch run in front of them, but they certainly got out on the right foot Friday night. The Red Sox left little doubt in their series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, bashing 18 hits en route to a 13-3 blowout win. Rick Porcello also did his job on the mound, earning his Major League Baseball-best 20th win to help the Red Sox take a two-game lead over the Jays in the American League East. Here’s how this one went down. GAME IN A WORDRelentless. Boston’s offense scored in six different innings and Porcello delivered another strong outing as the Red Sox rolled over a Blue Jays team that looked a bit out of sorts
