10:40 a.m. ET: The New England Patriots’ regular season finale is upon us. The Patriots can clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs with a win over the Miami Dolphins this afternoon. If the Patriots lose, they would need the Oakland Raiders to lose to or tie the Denver Broncos during the late afternoon games to get the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the postseason. The Dolphins can move up from the No. 6 seed to No. 5 with a win and Kansas City Chiefs loss to the San Diego Chargers. The Raiders and Chiefs still are competing for the AFC West title. Bruins, Tim Schaller Nearly Score On First-Period Power Play Vs. Sabres
Share this: Almost doesn’t count, but the Boston Bruins executed a nearly perfect power play besides the fact that they didn’t score. The B’s had the man-advantage Saturday in the first period against the Buffalo Sabres, and they set up what should have been a sure scoring opportunity. With Boston in a perfect triangle, Frank Vatrano fed the puck to Austin Czarnik on the left dot, and Czarnik passed to Tim Schaller right in front of the net. Schaller was robbed, however, on a nice pad save by Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner, but the Bruins forward did score in the second period. Bruins Struggling To Score Goals Ahead Of Matchup Vs. Canadiens
The Boston Bruins have a struggling offense, and it’s the main reason for their 3-game skid. Boston has scored just six goals combined in the last three games, and it ranks 26th in the NHL in goals scored per game and 27th in power-play percentage. The B’s must find a way to score goals soon, especially with a matchup against the rival Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Monday night. Check out the video above for a report from Sunday’s Bruins practice, as seen on “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank. ... NESN.com
Bruins’ Offensive Struggles Dominate Storyline In Loss Vs. Maple Leafs
Share this: The Boston Bruins didn’t have any problems creating chances in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs — they had a 33-20 advantage in shots on goal — but their offense struggled to finish. “I think, when you look at what’s happening to us right now, when you can’t score, you can’t win hockey games,” coach Claude Julien told NESN’s Andy Brickley and Jack Edwards on “Bruins Overtime Live.” “You can create chances all you want, but if you’re not going to score, every goal that goes in against you is being dissected, and it kind of makes the guys second guess themselves and the confidence level isn’t there.” Hear more from Julien in the video above.
