The Boston Red Sox are switching up their lineup for their series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. David Ortiz will get a day off Thursday, which is unsurprising given the Red Sox are playing an afternoon game after a night game. Hanley Ramirez will return to the lineup as the designated hitter and bat in the cleanup spot. Travis Shaw will take Ramirez’s post at first base and bat eighth, while Aaron Hill will slot in at third base and bat seventh. Chris Young also will start in left field and bat sixth after Andrew Benintendi injured his knee during Wednesday night’s game. Drew Pomeranz is on the mound for the Red

Ryan Hanigan Catching For Steven Wright In Red Sox-Twins Series Opener
BOSTON — The Red Sox are coming off a two-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants, and now it’s Steven Wright’s turn to keep up Boston’s winning ways. The knuckleballer will be on the mound Thursday for the first contest of the Red Sox’s four-game series against the Minnesota Twins. Wright has had a little bit of trouble in July so far, putting up a 6.35 ERA in three starts, but he still earned the win in each of those games. His 2.78 ERA also is second in the American League behind the Cleveland Indians’ Danny Salazar. Ryan Hanigan will catch for Wright to give Sandy Leon a day off, as the two backstops have been following a two games on, two games
Brock Holt Back In Red Sox’s Lineup For Series Opener Vs. Yankees
BOSTON — The Red Sox open their first series against the New York Yankees on Friday, and they get to do it in the friendly confines of Fenway Park. Brock Holt is back in the lineup after getting a day off against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, and he’ll play in left field and bat in his usual No. 7 spot in the order. Catcher Ryan Hanigan also will take over behind the plate for left-hander Henry Owens and bat eighth. Owens made his Major League Baseball debut against the Yankees on Aug. 4, 2015, and he’ll be looking for some revenge after the Red Sox ended up going down 13-3 in that game. Owens
Manny Ramirez Lightened Mood Throughout Red Sox’s 2004 World Series Run
BOSTON — Johnny Damon could never hit quite like Manny Ramirez, but when the former Red Sox teammates reconvened Wednesday at Fenway Park, at least Damon wasn’t rocking whatever that thing was Ramirez had on his head. “I’m just glad my hair still looks a lot better than his,” Damon said. Damon and Ramirez were back, along with the majority of the 2004 Red Sox, to celebrate the team that won the World Series and ended an 86-year championship drought. Despite the slugger’s ugly exit from Boston in 2008, the mere mention of Ramirez brought a smile to the face of every alum in attendance. Not surprisingly, the infamous diving outfield cutoff play – which Damon had some fun with during Ramirez’s ceremonial first pitch
Cardinals draw level with Red Sox in World Series
Updated: Friday, 25 Oct 2013 10:31 | Comments The series is now all square after two games The St Louis Cardinals turned the tables on Boston by taking full advantage of some sloppy Red Sox fielding to level the World Series at 1-1 on the back of a 4-2 victory at Fenway Park. The Cardinals, who committed three errors in losing Game One of the best-of-seven series 8-1 a day earlier, latched on to a pair of miscues in the seventh inning to score three runs and overhaul the hosts. "We kind of contributed to the three runs allowed," said Boston manager John Farrell, echoing the post-mortem delivered on Wednesday by his St Louis counterpart, Mike Matheny.
