Share this: The Boston Red Sox’s champagne celebration Wednesday was strange. There’s no denying that. Boston won its second American League East title in the last four seasons, despite squandering a three-run lead over the New York Yankees and losing 5-3 in one of the worst ways possible. The Red Sox’s usually lights-out closer Craig Kimbrel couldn’t record an out through 28 pitches, loading the bases for Joe Kelly, who gave up a two-out walk-off grand slam to Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira. But the Red Sox still deserve to celebrate. It’s all about perspective for the 2016 Red Sox. This time last season, they had some promising young players, but they still were last place in the division before an eventual 78-84 finish. And

Rob Gronkowski Feeling ‘No Setbacks’ Following Patriots Season Debut
by Zack Cox on Wed, Sep 28, 2016 at 2:03PM 2,626 Share this: FOXBORO, Mass. — Rob Gronkowski continues to make progress in his recovery from a nagging hamstring injury suffered during training camp. The New England Patriots tight end made his season debut last Thursday, suiting up against the Houston Texans after missing the Patriots’ first two regular-season games. “I felt good, definitely,” Gronkowski said before Wednesday’s Patriots practice. “You’re always sore no matter what after playing a game. No matter if you play 10 plays or 70 plays, (you’re) definitely sore like any other game. But no setbacks, no nothing. Feeling good and just progressing every day.” The Patriots limited Gronkowski’s workload in his first game back. He played a mere 14 snaps in the
Warriors’ Steph Curry On 2017 NBA Free Agency: ‘I Want To Be Here’
Share this: Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry is entering the final year of his contract, but the chances of him leaving the Bay Area appear to be slim. The two-time reigning MVP recently was asked about next summer’s NBA free agency, and he shed some light on his thought process. Steph Curry when asked if he's optimistic about re-signing w/Golden State in 2017 free agency: "Uh, yes. …. I want to be here. That's it." — Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) September 27, 2016 That’s an encouraging statement for Warriors fans. Curry will make $12,112,359 this season. It’s the fourth-highest salary on the Warriors, but all of the deals ahead of him were signed after his current contract was completed. He’s expected to get a max contract unless he takes
J.J. Watt Shares Inspirational Message After Landing On IR With Injury
Share this: J.J. Watt plans to tackle his rehab as ferociously as he tackles opposing quarterbacks. The Houston Texans placed Watt on injured reserve Wednesday after the All-Pro defensive end re-injured his surgically repaired back during last Thursday’s loss to the New England Patriots. Watt, who missed the entire preseason before returning for Houston’s first three regular-season games, posted an inspirational message shortly after the news of his IR stint was announced. “I will be back.” he declared. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday, citing sources, that Watt is expected to be out an extended period of time, perhaps even the rest of the season. It’s a huge blow to the Texans’ defense, as the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year is one of
Red Sox Notes: David Price’s Rough Outing Still Is No Reason To Panic
Share this: Those hoping David Price and the Boston Red Sox never would lose again were sorely disappointed Tuesday. It was a night of broken streaks in the Bronx, as the New York Yankees beat the Red Sox 6-4 to end Boston’s 11-game run while also handing Price his first loss in his last 10 starts. Price’s outing was anything but pretty. He gave up six runs in 6 1/3 innings and tied a season high with 12 hits allowed, three of which were home runs. It was the fourth consecutive start he’s allowed at least one homer, and he’s surrendered six in that span after allowing just one in his prior four starts. “To have a chance to clinch the division for us here, it’s not acceptable,”
Mookie Betts Explains What Happened On Wild Catch-Turned-Double Play
Share this: Mookie Betts made one of the weirder plays of the season Tuesday night in the Bronx. It was also one of the most impressive. The Boston Red Sox’s right fielder lost a liner off the bat of Chase Headley in the Yankee Stadium lights and went into his slide a bit prematurely. He somehow managed to reach across and over his body and make the catch anyway before jumping up and quickly doubling off Starlin Castro at first base. It wasn’t enough to win the game, though, as the Red Sox had their 11-game winning streak snapped in a 6-4 loss to the New York Yankees. Still, it was pretty impressive nonetheless. Check out Betts’ explanation for the play in the video
MLB Postseason Picture: Red Sox Would Play Indians If Season Ended Monday
Share this: The Boston Red Sox had an opportunity to clinch the American League East on Tuesday night in the Bronx, but the New York Yankees continued to play spoiler. A night after New York came from behind to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays and cut Boston’s magic number to clinch the AL East to just one, the Yankees struck again with three home runs off Red Sox ace David Price to take home a 6-4 victory. That, combined with Toronto’s victory over the Baltimore Orioles and the Texas Rangers’ victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, means no champagne was popped in the Red Sox clubhouse. Boston now trails the Rangers by a game for the best record in the AL. They still sit
