Red Sox Wrap: Hanley Ramirez Lifts Boston To 5-4 Comeback Win Vs. Yankees

BOSTON — It doesn’t get much more exciting than meaningful September baseball.

The Red Sox finished out a four-game sweep of the New York Yankees on Sunday night despite a rough outing from starter Drew Pomeranz. The lefty put Boston in a four-run hole, but Hanley Ramirez did most of the work after that, crushing two homers to eventually give the Red Sox a 5-4 come-from-behind win.

Here’s how it all went down.

GAME IN A WORD
Hanley.

When you score most of your team’s runs with two homers, you get to be the word of the game.

IT WAS OVER WHEN …
Koji Uehara finished out the ninth.

Despite the exciting offense from the Red Sox, they still had only a one-run lead. Uehara kept it in tact, though.

ON THE BUMP
— It was another rough night for Pomeranz. The left-hander struggled from the very start, giving up a leadoff double to Brett Gardner on the second pitch he threw. Pomeranz allowed a run to score in the first after dealing a two-out walk to first baseman Billy Butler and a single to shortstop Didi Gregorius. Designated hitter Gary Sanchez homered in the third, and Pomeranz loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth and gave up two more runs before getting yanked.

Pomeranz finished the night with four earned runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

— Heath Hembree was solid in relief, allowing only a two-out double to catcher Brian McCann in the fifth and turning in 1 1/3 clean innings.

— Junichi Tazawa pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning and struck out Yankees right fielder Rob Refsnyder.

— Brad Ziegler gave up a one-out single to Sanchez that nearly reached the top of the Green Monster, and was replaced by Robby Scott after getting first baseman Mark Teixeira to line out. Scott struck out Gregorius to end the seventh inning and got one out in the eighth.

— Joe Kelly replaced Scott and got out of the eighth after allowing a single to center fielder Mason Williams, and Uehara closed the game out.

IN THE BATTER’S BOX
— It was Ramirez’s night again, as the first baseman hit two home runs. Ramirez went 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs.

— Catcher Bryan Holaday went 2-for-2 with a run before being replaced by pinch-hitter David Ortiz, who struck out in his at-bat in the sixth.

— Xander Bogaerts went 0-for-2 but walked twice and scored a run.

— Mookie Betts, Chris Young and Travis Shaw each went 1-for-4, and Shaw also scored a run. Jackie Bradley Jr. went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

— Aaron Hill went 1-for-3 with a walk.

— Dustin Pedroia went 0-for-5.

TWEET OF THE NIGHT
Ramirez wasn’t the only guy on the Red Sox doing incredible things Sunday.
