Share this: Seahawks safety Earl Thomas suffered a heartbreaking injury in the first half of Seattle’s home game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday night. He was carted off the field with a lower body injury, which NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports, citing sources, is a broken bone in his leg that will keep him sidelined indefinitely. NBC sideline reporter Michelle Tafoya said on the broadcast that Thomas suffered a cracked tibia. Thomas hurt his left leg going for an interception and colliding with teammate Kam Chancellor. He actually took to Twitter after leaving the game and mentioned retirement. This game has been so good to me no regrets.. A lot is running through my mind including retirement thanks for all the prayers. — Earl Thomas (@Earl_Thomas) December 5, 2016 Thomas has

Joe Namath Kissing Retiring Verne Lundquist Was Highlight Of Iron Bowl

Share this: The Iron Bowl was far from an instant classic like Michigan-Ohio State was, but it still provided us with at least one memorable moment. During No. 1 Alabama’s 30-12 thumping of No. 13 Auburn, Crimson Tide legend Joe Namath visited the CBS broadcast booth to wish Verne Lundquist well before his retirement at the end of the season. And, of course, a Namath appearance wouldn’t be complete without wearing a fur coat and trying to kiss an announcer. Namath also tweeted out a message for Lundquist before his visit to the broadcast booth. Also just wanna thank Verne Lundquist for being the kinda guy he is and the great job he's done for so many sports fans for so many years. — Joe Namath (@RealJoeNamath)

Michael Phelps Spent The First Day Of His Olympic Retirement In A Pool

Share this: If you spent nearly three decades working at McDonald’s, chances are your first meal upon leaving wouldn’t be a Big Mac. But try telling that to the most decorated Olympian of all time. Michael Phelps recently announced his retirement from swimming after racking up six more medals (five gold), at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. After a grueling Olympic schedule, Phelps returned home to the U.S., where one of the first items on his agenda was enjoying some much-needed R&R — in a pool. Of course, Phelps isn’t exactly swimming a 100-meter final here — he’s lounging with his fiancée, Nicole, and their baby son, Boomer. And it makes sense that the 31-year-old would feel comfortable in a setting where he’s spent so much of

David Ortiz Shares Questionable Retirement Ideas In ‘SportsCenter’ Commercial

David Ortiz might be in for a rough 2017. The Boston Red Sox slugger stars in a new “SportsCenter” commercial on ESPN in which he brainstorms some ideas for post-retirement business ventures with teammates David Price and Eduardo Rodriguez. And with suggestions like “Papi’s Fritas” and “Big Puppy,” Ortiz’s starting pitcher buddies can’t help but wonder if retirement might make him go a little crazy. Ortiz has made just a little bit of money throughout his 19-season career — Spotrac estimates his total cash earnings at around $ 160 million — so we’re sure he’ll be just fine even if “Papisicles” don’t work out for him. ...

Jared Allen Announces Retirement By Literally Riding Off Into Sunset (Video)

This is how you announce your retirement — if only the sun would cooperate. Carolina Panthers defensive end Jared Allen is calling it a career after 12 seasons, a decision he announced in a very unique way Thursday morning. The four-time All-Pro took to Twitter and posted a video of himself literally “riding off into the sunset,” despite not having the whole sunset thing. Allen also released a more formal statement, too, per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. ...

Relive the Moment: Ray Bourque Takes Sweater Off His Back, Hands No. 7 to Phil Esposito at Retirement Ceremony

In Ray Bourque's mind there was only one No. 7 in Bruins history, and that belonged to Phil Esposito. So on the day the B's retired Espo's number in 1987, Bourque took the No. 7 sweater off his back and handed it over to the Boston legend, relinquishing the number to the player who helped lead the black and gold to two Stanley Cups in 1970 and 1972. To see one future Hall of Famer offer his jersey to another, check out the video below.
