Bills GM Doug Whaley Doesn’t Know Why Rex Ryan Was Fired After Two Seasons

Share this: The Buffalo Bills fired head coach Rex Ryan after two largely unsuccessful seasons, but general manager Doug Whaley doesn’t know why the club parted ways with the outspoken head coach. That’s not rhetorical. He seriously doesn’t know. Whaley admitted as much Monday at a very awkward year-end news conference. “We had just finished our weekly phone conversation with (Bills owner Terry Pegula) — myself and Rex,” Whaley explained, recalling the circumstances around Ryan’s firing. “Rex asked to speak with (Pegula) privately. After that, I was informed that Rex would no longer be our coach. I wasn’t privy to the conversation so I cannot get into those details.” One reporter pressed Whaley further, with the reporter citing his own reporting that Buffalo made the

by Zack Cox on Mon, Jan 2, 2017 at 3:30PM 2,560 Share this: Josh McDaniels isn’t the only New England Patriots coordinator garnering interest from NFL teams with head-coaching vacancies. The Los Angeles Rams and San Diego Chargers both have submitted requests to interview Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday. The Rams fired head coach Jeff Fisher last month, and the Chargers canned Mike McCoy on Sunday. Patricia, who has been with the Patriots since 2004, said Monday he had yet to receive calls from any NFL suitors. “I haven’t heard anything,” Patricia said in a conference call with reporters. “We’re just working on (Sunday’s) game and getting ready here for moving forward. I know there’s a process in place

Michael Floyd Delivers Block Of The Year To Spring Julian Edelman For Touchdown

by Zack Cox on Sun, Jan 1, 2017 at 3:11PM 2,889 Share this: Julian Edelman scored the longest touchdown of his career Sunday afternoon, with a major assist from New England Patriots teammate Michael Floyd. During the third quarter of a game against the Miami Dolphins, Edelman hauled in a pass from quarterback Tom Brady near his own 30-yard line, broke one tackle and barreled upfield. Tony Lippett appeared to have a bead on the shifty Patriots wideout, but Floyd came out of nowhere to demolish the Dolphins cornerback with a thunderous block. Floyd’s hit cleared the road for Edelman, who sprinted the final 50 yards untouched for a 77-yard touchdown. Floyd also caught a touchdown pass earlier in the game, his first since the Patriots

NFL Rumors: Chargers Plan To Fire Mike McCoy After Disappointing Season

Share this: Mike McCoy will be on the sideline for the San Diego Chargers in Week 17, but it might be for the last time. The Chargers plan to fire their head coach after San Diego’s matchup against the AFC West division rival Kansas City Chiefs, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday. Thanks in part to a slew of injuries, the Bolts have stumbled to a 5-10 record this season. McCoy brought the Chargers to the playoffs as an AFC wild-card team in his first season in 2013, but they lost to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round. San Diego turned in another 9-7 season in 2014 before finishing below .500 in their last two, giving McCoy a 27-36 record over four seasons. If
