Share this: The Boston Red Sox no doubt went into Game 1 of their American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians with a lot of confidence in their starting pitcher. Rick Porcello pitched himself into AL Cy Young contention during the 2016 season with a 22-4 record, 3.15 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a career-low .230 batting average against. But unfortunately for the Red Sox, that wasn’t the Rick Porcello who showed up for Boston’s 5-4 loss at Progressive Field on Thursday. The Porcello who showed up Thursday got off to a great start, striking out the side in the first inning after hitting leadoff batter Carlos Santana. But once the second rolled around, the right-hander gave up the 1-0 lead the Red

Red Sox Notes: Boston’s Offense Gets Fooled By Cleveland’s Pitching In ALDS Game…
Share this: The Boston Red Sox’s strong suit going into the playoffs was their offense, but that’s not how it worked out Thursday. The Red Sox dropped Game 1 of their American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians 5-4, partly because of a lackluster performance from starter Rick Porcello, who gave up three solo home runs in the third inning. However, the offense really didn’t do Porcello any favors. The Red Sox were swinging at everything and especially had trouble with breaking balls. The Indians’ pitching staff generated a whopping 28 swing-and-misses, and 18 of them were on breaking pitches. Eleven of the Red Sox’s 14 strikeouts were swinging, too, with seven of those coming on breaking balls. And not all of

Share this: Welcome back, Twitter. This week’s “Thursday Night Football” game between the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers will be the third NFL game this season to be streamed live on Twitter, which means you won’t have to think outside the box much to watch the live stream. Depending on your cable provider, NFL Network subscribers also can watch the game online, and Verizon users can stream the game on the network’s NFL Mobile app. Both teams have started the season 1-3. That’s certainly a surprise for the Cardinals but not so much for the 49ers. Neither team will get much help this week, as Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer already has been ruled out of the game with a concussion, and the 49ers

Even-Year Giants Strike Again With Conor Gillaspie’s Three-Run Home Run
Share this: The even-year magic already is in full force for the San Francisco Giants. The Giants, who have won the last three World Series in even years, beat the New York Mets 3-0 on Wednesday in the National League Wild Card Game thanks to a likely and unlikely hero. Madison Bumgarner continued his postseason dominance with a complete-game shutout of the Mets. He allowed only four hits and two walks while striking out six. He’s the likely hero, but the same can’t be said for Giants third baseman Conor Gillaspie, whose three-run home run in the top of the ninth was the difference. Gillaspie only had six homers during the regular season, but there was no doubt about his ninth-inning blast Wednesday. And now we get
Toronto Journalist Reportedly Identified As AL Wild Game Beer Chucker
Share this: Tuesday’s American League Wild Card Game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles was an instant classic, but history probably will remember it for one ugly incident instead. As Orioles left fielder Hyun Soo Kim went to make a catch during the bottom of the seventh inning, a fan threw a beer can that came very close to hitting him. The Blue Jays went on to win the game on a walk-off home run, but much of the talk Wednesday centered around Buck Showalter’s decision not to pitch Zach Britton and the beer-throwing incident. The Toronto Police posted a close-up photo on Twitter of the man believed to be the beer-can thrower and asked the public for help identifying him. And apparently it worked, because he has

More bad news — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 5, 2016 White wasn’t a dominant player for fantasy teams through the first four games of the season, but he does have a lot of talent and potential as a former No. 6 overall draft pick. He also was playing a large role in Chicago’s passing
