Share this: David Ortiz already has received plenty of recognition from various Major League Baseball teams during his final season, but the club he visited Friday has something no one else has: Vin Scully. The legendary Los Angeles Dodgers announcer took the reins when Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox came to town for a three-game series, honoring the slugger with an awesome video tribute that recalled Ortiz’s childhood in the Dominican Republic and his contributions to the Red Sox. Ortiz also was joined on the field by former teammates Nomar Garciaparra, Adrian Gonzalez and Dave Roberts, who presented him with a $10,000 check to the David Ortiz Children’s Fund. The Boston Red Sox’s resident knuckleballer dazzled against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, allowing just four baserunners while striking out nine in a complete-game shutout that arguably was the best outing by a Red Sox starter this season. “He had a very good touch and feel for (his knuckleball),” manager John Farrell said of Wright, as aired on “NESN Sports Today.” “It never really got away from him for consecutive pitches. Share this: Dustin Pedroia suffered a pretty painful, self-inflicted injury Friday night. The Boston Red Sox second baseman was batting against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Scott Kazmir in the top of the third inning at Dodger Stadium when he fouled a 2-2 offering hard off his left ankle. Pedroia fell to the ground in pain, as manager John Farrell and the Red Sox’s training staff immediately came out to check on him. Pedroia finished the at-bat but clearly was hurting, as the usually hard-running veteran jogged slowly down the line after grounding out to second base and walked gingerly back to the dugout. Red Sox Claim Veteran Catcher Bryan Holaday Off Waivers From Rangers
Share this: The Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline didn’t mark the end of the Boston Red Sox’s maneuvering. The Red Sox claimed catcher Bryan Holaday off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Friday, the team announced in a press release. Holaday was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Aug. 1. He hit .238 with two home runs, 13 RBIs and a .695 OPS in 94 plate appearances over 30 games with Texas. Holaday spent his first four seasons with the Detroit Tigers, appearing in a career-high 62 games in 2014. The 28-year-old is a .248 hitter with a .640 OPS in 376 career plate appearances. Patriots Practice Observations: Tom Brady Perfect In Full-Team Scrimmage
Share this: FOXBORO, Mass. — Jimmy Garoppolo beat Tom Brady in a post-practice competition on Thursday. Brady got his revenge Friday in a full-team scrimmage, however. Brady was a perfect 25-of-25 passing in Team Blue’s 17-9 victory over Team White. Garoppolo was just 18 of 33 with an interception. Brady was fired up throughout the scrimmage, chirping at Team White and showing his typical passion during Team Blue celebrations. Brady also beat Garoppolo by throwing a football into a barrel first after practice. Garoppolo matched Brady on the next throw and won Thursday.
