Drew Pomeranz will be looking for an encore performance on Easter Sunday. The Boston Red Sox left-hander will make his second start of the season Sunday at Fenway Park against the Tampa Bay Rays. Pomeranz dazzled in his first outing, limiting the Baltimore Orioles to one run over six innings while striking out six in Boston’s eventual 8-1 win. The 28-year-old had considerable success against the Rays last season, posting a 3.03 ERA over three starts while striking out 23 batters in 17 2/3 innings pitched. GM Reportedly Will Deploy World’s Largest Fleet Of Self-Driving Cars
It’s pretty difficult at this point to determine which automaker is the most serious about developing self-driving vehicles in the United States. General Motors, though, might have plans to distance itself from the pack. The U.S. automaker plans to soon deploy 300 Chevrolet Bolts fitted with self-driving technology, Spectrum reported Friday. If true, GM would sport the world’s largest fleet of autonomous vehicles, placing it well ahead of Waymo, which currently owns the largest such fleet at nearly 80 vehicles. Despite Ugly Loss Friday Night, Red Sox Pitching Off To A Good Start
Despite the performance by Rick Porcello and the Red Sox on Friday night, the pitching is already off to a better start 10 games into the season compared to last season. Through 10 games in 2017, the Red Sox offensive numbers are down from a year ago, but their pitching has improved and is trending in the right direction. The team currently has a 4.40 ERA compared to a 4.81 ERA through their first 10 games of 2016. The addition of Chris Sale has certainly helped and should get even better when David Price returns. The Boston Bruins looked dead in the water after 40 minutes on Wednesday night in Ottawa. However, the Bruins — as they have for much of Bruce Cassidy’s brief tenure — were able to dig deep and find a way to win, scoring two third-period goals en route to a 2-1 win over the Senators in Game 1 of their Stanley Cup playoffs first-round series. Red Sox Getting Tremendous Offensive Production From Dynamic Catching Duo
The Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8-1 on Tuesday night at Fenway Park in part due to a stellar performance by catcher Christian Vazquez. Vazquez got the start behind the plate over teammate Sandy Leon and provided a stellar performance calling the game behind the plate and at the plate, too. Vazquez went 4 for 4 with a two singles, a double, a triple and two RBIs in the win. The Red Sox are getting terrific offensive production from their defensive-minded catchers this season. Former MLB Outfielder Otis Nixon Reported Missing In Atlanta Area
Former Major League Baseball outfielder Otis Nixon has been reported missing, Woodstock, Ga., police reported Monday. According to The Associated Press, Nixon was last seen around 10 a.m. Saturday when he left his home in the Atlanta suburb in a gray Range Rover. The 58-year-old, who was wearing a black long sleeve shirt, black sweatpants, a black baseball cap and black Adidas shoes with white stripes when he left, was headed to a golf course, but he never made his tee time Nixon was reported missing by his girlfriend. “Detectives are following up on leads received overnight,” Woodstock police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said Monday, per Th... Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello OK After Near-Collision With Tigers Coach
The Boston Red Sox have enough ailing players to fill an infirmary ward, and Rick Porcello nearly joined the walking wounded Sunday. The Red Sox starter had just allowed his third run of the afternoon in the fourth inning when he nearly collided with Detroit Tigers third base coach Dave Clark while running behind the base to back up a potential throw to third.
