Share this: Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins’ career has been derailed by injuries, which is too bad because when fully healthy he’s been productive and exciting to watch. Watkins played Sunday in Buffalo’s 13-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but he failed to make much of an impact with just four receptions for 43 yards. His ability to not only be effective, but actually play in the Bills’ upcoming games is uncertain right now. “The feeling now is whether Watkins can manage the pain in his foot,” Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News wrote Monday. “There was a fear on Sunday night that the wideout could miss the rest of the season. Medical personnel, including renowned foot specialist Robert Anderson, have advised Watkins

Serena Williams Loses U.S. Open Semifinal, And No. 1 World Ranking With It
Share this: Serena Williams lost more than a match Thursday at the U.S. Open. The next time you look at the WTA rankings, there will be a name other than Serena Williams at No. 1 for the first time since Feb. 18, 2013, following her shocking straight-sets loss to Karolina Pliskova in Thursday’s semifinals at the year’s final Grand Slam. It should be pointed out that Williams apparently wasn’t playing at 100 percent. Williams’ loss means Angelique Kerber, who faced Caroline Wozniacki in the second semifinal in New York, will be the new No. 1 women’s tennis player. Williams’ time at No. 1 will end at 186 weeks, tied for the longest-ever streak with Steffi Graf. Williams also is tied for most Grand Slams in the Open era
Travis Shaw Clobbers Two-Run Homer In Return To Red Sox’s Lineup Vs. Padres
Share this: Yoan Moncada’s call-up apparently gave Travis Shaw some motivation. The Boston Red Sox third baseman was back in the lineup Wednesday night against the San Diego Padres after Moncada, who seemingly stole Shaw’s job, started to struggle. And Shaw immediately showed his worth to the Red Sox by absolutely crushing a two-run homer off Padres starter Jarred Cosart in the second inning. Shaw’s home run was his 16th of the season, and it came at a time when he was struggling, too. The 26-year-old batted .167 with a .542 OPS in August, but he has been heating up since having to compete with Moncada for playing time. Patriots Worked Out Five Free Agents, Including Two Receivers
Share this: Running back David Cobb wasn’t the only free agent worked out by the New England Patriots this week. The Patriots also tried out wide receivers Mitch Mathews and K.J. Maye, tight end Nic Jacobs, offensive tackle Clay DeBord and defensive back Tyler Patmon, a source told NESN.com. The receivers likely will be of most interest to Patriots fans, since New England kept just four players on their 53-man roster. Mathews went undrafted out of BYU and spent the summer with the Kansas City Chiefs. The 6-foot-5, 222-pound wideout ran a 4.49-second 40-yard dash at his pro day in March with a 6.99-second 3-cone, 4.25-second short shuttle, 36-inch vertical leap and 10-foot, 9-inch broad jump. He caught 152 passes for 2,083 yards with
Pedrosa: "Dry track time was exactly what I needed"
It has been a more difficult start to the 2016 season for Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) than the Spaniard is used to, but progress began well in Silverstone at the British GP as Pedrosa found more positive feeling straightaway on the long, demanding 5.9km circuit. Getting in a lot of dry running as the worst of the weather struck Moto2™ instead, Silverstone race lap record holder Pedrosa is happy with his initial feeling in the UK as he looks to get back on the podium; only a tenth behind teammate Marc Marquez after Day 1. Henrik Stenson Withdraws From The Barclays; Will His Ryder Cup Hopes Be Dashed?
Share this: The first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs will have to go on without one of the hottest golfers on the planet right now. Henrik Stenson, who won the British Open in July and a silver medal at the Olympics, withdrew from The Barclays at Bethpage State Park (Black) in Farmingdale, N.Y., after finishing his first round Thursday due to a right knee injury. Stenson statement on WD: "My right knee, which required surgery in December, 2015, has flared up again." — PGA TOUR Media (@PGATOURmedia) August 25, 2016 Little else is known about Stenson’s injury, but the 2013 FedEx Cup champion won’t have much time to recoup if he wants to compete in the Deutsche Bank Championship over Labor Day Weekend. However, Stenson currently sits
Does Clay Buchholz Deserve A Spot In Red Sox’s Rotation Amid Strong Stretch?
Clay Buchholz was just supposed to bridge the gap. But given the way he’s pitched over the last two weeks, the Boston Red Sox might have some decisions to make. Buchholz, who is filling in for the injured Steven Wright in Boston’s rotation, made his third consecutive start Tuesday. And for the third consecutive time, the right-hander put his team in a position to win, this time limiting the Tampa Bay Rays to one run over 6 1/3 innings while striking out nine in the Red Sox’s 2-1 win at Tropicana Field. To say Buchholz has had a disappointing 2016 season would be an understatement: He posted a 6.35 ERA record through his first
