The San Jose Sharks held on to win a thriller, 4-2, after a wild first period that saw the game’s first five goals. San Jose got right to business in Pittsburgh when Brent Burns scored just 1:04 into the period. That wasn’t all the Sharks had up their sleeves, though. Just 1:49 later, they struck again, this time with Logan Couture doing the damage. Paul Pierce’s days in the NBA officially are numbered. Maria Sharapova Receives Two-Year Suspension For Using Banned Substance
The International Tennis Federation dropped the hammer on Maria Sharapova on Wednesday. The ITF suspended Sharapova for two years after she tested positive for meldonium, a banned substance, at this year’s Australian Open. She already was provisionally suspended by the ITF after she announced her positive test at a shocking March press conference. Sharapova could have been suspended for as many as four years, but it was determined that she didn’t use the substance as a performance enhancing drug. The Pittsburgh Penguins are one step closer to hoisting their first Stanley Cup since 2009. The Penguins took a commanding three-games-to-one lead over the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Final with a 3-1 win in Game 4 on Monday night. The Penguins had a 2-0 lead heading into the third period thanks to goals by Evgeni Malkin and Ian Cole, but the Sharks made it a one-goal game again after Melker Karlsson struck at the 8:07 mark in the third period. If MVP awards were given out after two games of a series, Draymond Green would be sporting some new hardware. Fake awards can be given out whenever we want, though, which means Stephen Curry officially is the Most Entertaining Bench Reactor of the NBA Finals. Green was an unstoppable force for the Golden State Warriors, who blew out the Cleveland Cavaliers 110-77 in Game 2. He finished with a game-high 28 points, including five 3-pointers, and added seven rebounds and five assists. Red Sox Place Blake Swihart, Ryan Hanigan On 15-Day DL; Sandy Leon Recalled
BOSTON — The Red Sox will be a little light at the catcher position over the next couple weeks. The Red Sox placed left fielder/catcher Blake Swihart (left ankle sprain) and catcher Ryan Hanigan (neck strain) on the 15-day disabled list Sunday ahead of their series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. Both players left Saturday’s game with injuries in a span of under an inning, with Hanigan exiting after the sixth and Swihart leaving in the top of the seventh.
